Visit Kerala — God’s own country this winter

Winter is the best time to visit Kerala when the heat and humidity give way to the chilly nip in the air. Kerala is truly God’s own country with lush green plantations, beautiful mountains, tea and coffee plantations, bountiful rivers, the serene backwaters and the pristine beaches.

Some of the must-visit places in South Kerala are:

Munnar

Munnar: This is a picturesque hill station nestled in the Western Ghats. It is at an altitude of 6000 ft. and is a common retreat for many people during summers. It is lush green with pretty tea gardens and exotic flora. It is also home to Anamudi peak, which is the highest peak in South India. You can also visit Eravikulam National Park and Mattupetty Dam. Munnar is a place where you can just sit around and drink in the natural beauty of the mountains.

Thekkady

Thekkady: Situated in the Idukki district of Kerala is Thekkady. It is home to the Periyar wildlife sanctuary. It is spread across 800 kms. Half of it is dense jungle. it was declared a tiger reserve and is also home to the majestic elephants. Just across the Park is the Lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam. If you are lucky, you can see herds of elephants frolicking in the lake.

Alleppey: Alleppey is often called the “Venice of the East.” It is the hub of Kerala’s beautiful backwaters. You will find a maze of a number of waterways dotted with hundreds of houseboats. The watery lagoons are fringed with beautiful coconut palms for as far as the eyes can see. You can head to the beach closeby or just laze around in the houseboat watching the world go by. You can see small villages and paddy fields and the serene waters form a perfect backdrop for nature’s untold beauty.

kovalam

Kovalam: It is situated just 15 kms. from the capital city of Trivandrum. It is home to two bustling beaches that are bustling with holiday crowds. Enjoy sun, sand and sea here or head out for an ayurvedic massage. Kovalam is very popular with the tourists.
